Just As Jesus Did

A reading for Wednesday, July 15, 2020: Acts 14:8-20.

"When the crowds saw what Paul had done, they shouted in the Lycaonian language, “The gods have come down to us in human form!”

Jesus Christ came to preach, to teach and to heal. These were the signs that the Kingdom of Heaven had drawn near to the people. In the gospel of Luke, we witnessed Jesus doing all these things again and again.

Today, in Acts 14, Paul does the very same. He heals the man crippled from birth, just as Jesus did. He taught the people in Lystra the difference between the gods they trusted in and the living God, just as Jesus did. Finally, he even preached inviting them into a relationship with God through Christ, just as Jesus did.

Paul even suffered at the hands of his opponents, who dragged him out of the city intent on destroying him and his message of the gospel... Just as Jesus did, Paul suffered.

Preaching, teaching and healing are still the signs that the Kingdom of Heaven has drawn near. Thanks be to God!
