ACTS IN 90 DAYS
A reading for Tuesday, May 12, 2020: Acts 2:37-42.
"For the promise is for you, for your children, and for all who are far away,
everyone whom the Lord our God calls to him."
Sometimes we never know the good we have done in the name of our faith. Many of us that have done work with youth and children are sometimes surprised when a young believer recounts the impact we have had on them, even though we didn't know it at the time. Remember, "God Lover" others are always watching...
But at other times we are immediately aware of what God is doing. Today in Acts is such a moment for Peter. Having preached with passion and effectiveness, the scripture tells us that three thousand were converted, many baptized on the spot. Peter must have been overwhelmed with a new sense of the Spirit of God watching the new believers join the others in "teaching and fellowship, breaking of bread and prayers."
Such times of celebration and for most of us are rare, and should be cherished. Think back on the times in your own life when you were very aware of God's presence, when something you did or didn't do had an immediate response. If you can't imagine such a moment in your life, then spend a little time dreaming of what that might look like for you.
God is never very far away. Sometimes we know that and other times we don't, but trust that God is never far away.
Thanks be to God!
