Acts in 90 Days! Join us...
A reading for Friday, May 1, 2020: Acts 1:1
Today is the first day of May. It's the start of a new month and for many of us the start of summer. In TN, our kids go back to school at the beginning of August so for us the months of May, June and July are really our 3 months of summer. Or if you like, count August and you get four months. Anyway... Happy Summer!
Several years ago, a Sunday school class I was teaching decided to read through the Book of Acts together. Every verse and every word from chapter 1 through chapter 28. For me it was a time of great meaning and purpose for those in that class and myself personally. Many in that class said the same.
You might know that most scholars agree that Acts is the second volume of a two volume set written by Luke. The gospel writer wrote the book of Luke first, the life and times of Jesus of Nazareth, and then followed with the second volume, Acts, which is the sequel life and times of those early followers of Jesus. Peter, John, Stephen, Mary, Lydia, Philip, and Paul just to name a few are some of those first disciples. In Acts we learn what it was like to believe in and stay faithful to the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ. It's the story of the earliest church.
So you are hereby invited to a 90 day journey through the book of Acts. Because I don't normally write on the weekends, this journey will take us through the summer (including August). If you are willing to read a daily chunk of Acts, by summer's end we will have taken the journey together. Each day I will write a few of my own thoughts and also encourage your questions. My hope is that this will again be a time of great meaning and purpose for all of us.
If you are part of a Sunday school class that isn't meeting currently, maybe this will help. Feel free to invite others. I hope you will join us on the adventure of faith!
P.S. If you have been praying the daily office and following along, the plan is to return to blogging the daily practice in September. I would encourage you to keep up your practice in the meantime...
