Will They See God?

A reading for Monday, April 20, 2020: John 14:8-17.

"Philip said to him (Jesus), ‘Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied."

Our Christian faith is unique in that we believe the divine One is known in three ways. Jesus reminds his disciples that he is in the Father and the Father is in him. Jesus also promises that the Father will send the Holy Spirit to be an advocate for us. While most other world religions believe in a god that must be reached, our faith teaches that God is already with us fully in three ways. It's one of the great mysteries of our faith.

Further, and even better, Jesus then tells the disciples they are invited into the same relationship. That God the Father, and Jesus the Son, and the Advocate Holy Spirit can be in us too. We can be united with the One too, through the power of Jesus.

Here's the question... If someone were to look at our lives, could they tell? Would they be able to see the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit in us? Jesus said that his disciples would know God by doing what Jesus did, and we are the same. When others look at our lives, do they see God?
