Abide
A reading for Wednesday, April 22, 2020: John 15:1-11.
Jesus says, "Abide in me as I abide in you."
ABIDE. From Dictionary.com, "to remain; continue; stay." Hmmm... another word that seems particularly relevant in our current pandemic situation. We are all in a state of remaining, staying, continuing to abide at home.
Jesus says, "Abide in me as I abide in you." What if our mindset was not that we are abiding because of disease, but that we are abiding in Jesus? Would that change how we react to the day's news? Would it change how we see our lives and the world in the current reality?
Today is Earth Day. Many have noted that our current state of abiding has had a dramatic positive affect on climate change. We have all seen the photos on social media of dolphins in the canals of Venice, Italy and mule deer wandering the empty streets in Alaska. It's as if the earth is joyful even in the midst of suffering. When you abide, Jesus said, "My joy may be in you, that your joy may be complete."
