Acts: Jesus 2.0

A reading for Tuesday, May 2, 2017: Acts 5:12-16.

The book of Acts shows us how the disciples of the early church repeated just exactly what Jesus had done, performing miracles and transforming the world. They were connected to the resurrected Jesus in such a powerful way that the mission of God in Christ continued through them. It was like Jesus Christ 2.0!

"Yet more than ever believers were added to the Lord, great numbers of both men and women, so that they even carried out the sick into the streets, and laid them on cots and mats..."

The question for us today is, do we still feel connected to the mission of God in such a way that the work of Jesus continues in us? Do we expect to be able to preach and teach, heal and transform in powerful and even miraculous ways just like the early apostles in Acts?

I wonder how it would change us as church if the world around us knew us as disciples of Jesus who cared so deeply about the communities in which we dwell, that we brought them healing and transformation in the power of Jesus name?

The mission of God in Christ Jesus continues in us.
