Even now...

A reading for Thursday, April 13, 2017: Luke 22:1-27.

"But see, the one who betrays me is with me, and his hand is on the table." Even now, with the full knowledge that one of the twelve will betray him, Jesus remains open and filled with God's steadfast love. The last supper is not withheld even from the betrayer. His place at the table, is only questioned after the common meal and not as a prerequisite to it.

Tonight's Maundy Thursday meal is a celebration of God's steadfast love. It's an inclusive meal, for all are welcome no matter what they have done or not done. The one who serves continue to serve all even now with an abundance of grace and mercy. The meal we enjoy tonight is the remembrance of the fulfillment of prophecy. This is how the world is saved. The messiness of the human condition and the faithfulness of God, even now, equals salvation for you and for me.

At sundown tonight we remember Jesus last day on earth. The blessings of God for the people of God... Thanks be to God!
