A reading for Wednesday, February 1, 2017: Luke 6:20-26.
Jesus said...
You have heard it said that blessings are wealth, and power, and fame and fortune...
You have heard it said that woe is hunger and poverty and condemnation and mourning...
But I say, the opposite is true and my disciples will practice a different orientation to blessings and woes. Jesus set the world upright and oriented towards those things that would make community as God's people and love for neighbor as the highest ethic.
Without discipleship in Jesus our idea of blessings are all about individual achievement and personal well-being. Jesus calls us to die to self and embrace others. Our idea of woes are still about the individual without others to walk with us through the things that afflict us.
Jesus said to live without the blessings of God and the love of neighbors is woe. It seems sometimes we are still in need of listening to what Jesus said...
