No Battle

There are some Christian traditions that put great stock in the battle between good and evil. People fear a great cosmic battle is being waged between the forces of God and the forces of satan. It's angels versus demons. Even in our personal lives, remember that cartoon image from when we were children with an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other?
Yet in our lesson today we see that there really is no battle to be fought at all. All that is unclean, unholy and harmful to us is already under the authority of Jesus Christ. They know it and we know it. So we live with confidence that "nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord..."
Go out into the world and fear nothing! The Lord our God has defeated evil and placed all that threatens to destroy us beneath his power as if a footstool.
This is the good news. The battle is already won. There is no battle to fear...
