Promise Fulfilled!
A reading for Wednesday, September 21, 2016: Genesis 21:1-7.
Sarah laughed because God kept God's word. Sarah laughed at of how ironic such a blessing might be, a child in her old age. She laughed at how her husband Abraham would finally have an heir. Sarah laughed that her family, of all the families of the earth, would be the start of generations of God's people. She laughed under a sky filled with stars representing just how abundant and gracious God can be...
Sara gives us a gift with her laughter. When God keeps a promise, a blessing, and we suddenly discover how abundant and gracious God can be... we too can laugh!
Martin Luther said, "When you wash your face, remember your baptism." Sarah might have said, "Every time you laugh, remember how abundant and gracious our God can be!"
