Use Encouragement!
A reading for Thursday, May 26, 2016: 2 Timothy 2:1-13.
The most powerful tool we have in our arsenal towards the common good for all people and all things is encouragement. Yet, it is perhaps also the most underutilized.
Paul writes to Timothy with simply a word of encouragement. Stand firm. Be faithful. Continue to persevere even in the face of struggles and trials. You are doing what is right and that is to be encouraged. Paul says the Christian life is what makes the difference in the world, not just for you but more for others.
Those in our lives who are living the Christian life alongside us need to be encouraged more than anything else. They need to be complimented. They need to know we are proud of them for continuing to be faithful. Especially when everything isn't going well, encouragement is our most powerful tool to make a change.
Perhaps today each of us will have the opportunity if we look for it to encourage someone? Will we take it? You can do it. Stand firm. Be faithful. Persevere in the face of struggles and trials. You are doing what is right not only for you but for others, and that is what makes all the difference in the world around us.
