Trusting In the Trinity
A reading for Wednesday, May 4, 2016: 1 Kings 17:8-16.
The image of God in the world is the Trinity, a relationship of beings mutually involved with one another and at the very same time united as one. Since we are created in the image of God, this too is the way humans are created to live, in relationship.
In the story of Elijah, God sent him to be dependent on the widow for food. Notice that the widow comes to be just as dependent on Elijah for life. The two need each other in order to survive and even to thrive as the end of the story would recount.
We too are created this way. It's amazing when we offer ourselves to another person only to discover that such a person offers something of real meaning and benefit for our lives. We are created to live together in relationship. This is how we know the Trinity is real and can trust in it, because it matches our personal experience of knowing.
"For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.’" (Matthew 18:20)
