How Can It Be True?
A reading for Tuesday, April 5, 2016: Luke 24:1-12.
"These words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them..."
The resurrection of Jesus certainly seems like a strange, unbelievable story. How can a man, biological, flesh and bone, be raised once he is dead? We don't have first hand experience of such things. Our medical and scientific technology does not have such capability. How can it be true?
When we come to such a conclusion, it betrays what we trust. If we can't do it, then how can it be done? Well... God can do all things. What is impossible for us is not impossible for God. Faith requires that we place our trust in another source of truth.
Jesus is raised. Right now God is acting in the world. It might seem hard to imagine. We even might not have first hand experience of such things. But God can do all things. It is true.
There will always be those who come to the conclusion in our lesson from Luke. "These words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them..."
