A Balm for Trouble

A reading for Wednesday, March 23, 2016: Proverbs 27:9 .

When we are troubled and feel a sense of despair, the kindness of a friend has the power to lift us...

Jesus knew what was coming, and his soul was surely troubled. The gift of his anointing with perfumed oils by the woman that night must have lifted his spirit. This joy and blessing given for the Lord is a model for us.

Look around. There is suffering and despair. Perhaps just a moment of kindness, given from the heart from one to another is enough to lift someone even for a moment. When done again and again, these moments might be the balm that enables a soul to endure for a lifetime.

Truth is, we need each other more than we are willing sometimes to admit.
