Problem Isn't Money!

A reading for Wednesday, February 17, 2016: Ecclesiastes 5:10-11.

Notice that the problem isn't money... the problem is the inability to be satisfied.

Sometimes wealth becomes a competition. A few professional athletes want to be paid just a little more than the other guy, so they can be the highest paid position or athlete. It's not about the money. Nobody can spend tens of millions of dollars a year. It's not about an amount of money making a difference in their lifestyle. At some level it just becomes a meaningless number over against somebody else's number. Such competition is about an inability to be satisfied with what we have, over against what someone else has.

Perhaps that's an extreme example. Are we upset because someone else has more than we do? They drive a better car, or live in a bigger house? They can send their kids to private school, while our children have to go to public school? Ecclesiastes says this is vanity. Such competition is about an inability to be satisfied with what we have, over against what someone else has.

Notice that the problem isn't money... the problem is the inability to be satisfied.
