More Than Just A Servant
A reading for Friday, January 22, 2016: Luke 15:11-32.
We are not called simply to be servants of God our Father, but sons and daughters of the Living God. In our lesson today, the well known story of the Prodigal son, both sons mistakenly offered themselves as servants... "all these years I have been working like a slave for you."
Sons and daughters honor their father with more than just service, but also with love and joy and forgiveness and peace. Sons and daughters receive an inheritance of their father. They carry the father's name wherever they go. Sons and daughters enjoy a relationship with the father that makes life enjoyable and meaningful.
When the father runs to embrace the younger son, and also reassures the older son, he wants more than just a servant. Beloved of God means you are a son or a daughter!
