Thanks for Judgment
A reading for Tuesday, November 24, 2015: 1 Kings 21:1-29.
Nobody wants a God of judgment. We fear that we might be found unworthy and judged harshly...
That is until we discover a world in which evil continues to exist. In the story today about Ahab and Jezebel, did we not wish that God would punish for what they did to Naboth? Were they not actually the scoundrels in the story, and not just the two who brought charges against Naboth? Judgment is necessary for a just world.
The good news for us is that we need not fear our God of judgment, since we have been found in the presence of Jesus Christ. Because Jesus is righteous, and capable of upholding perfect justice, then we too are found in God's favor. Even beyond Ahab who repented in the end and was not destroyed, we are already judged and found righteous.
So we are capable of thankfulness even for a God of judgment.
