No Playing

A reading for Monday, November 16, 2015: Mark 10:13-16.

The best thing about children is that they tell you exactly what they want. There is no false pretense or game playing... "O no, you first." All the while we are the ones who really want it. It's funny that the very ones we think about when we think about playing are the very ones that aren't playing when it comes to what they want. That's what we want, sure enough.

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me." It's not clear from the story whether the children knew they wanted the touch of Jesus or whether it was their parents. I like the idea that there was something about Jesus that even children could sense. This Jesus was special.

That's the way perhaps we might seek Jesus too. Without regard to social practice or embarrassment. You Jesus are what I want in my life. No playing.

Jesus said, "Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it.”
