A Word from a Friend

A reading for Monday, October 26, 2015: 2 Samuel 7:8-17.

David had an intimate relationship with God. God was at the center of David's work when he was at his best, his success (until he turned away), and all of his relationships. When God needed to communicate something hard to David, perhaps something God knew David didn't want to hear... God came to David in relationships.

Nathan was a trusted friend and colleague. David wanted to build a Temple for God. “See now, I am living in a house of cedar, but the ark of God stays in a tent.” But God had other plans for David, and it would be his son Solomon who would build the great Temple. Nathan would be called upon again, just as in the past, to communicate God's word to David. God would continue to be with David in unending love, but David would not build the Temple.

Do you have people in your life who communicate God's plans for you? Can you hear a word from another, especially one you might not want to hear? We are blessed by those we share time and space with, friends who can share in what's in our best interest. We would pray those friends are acting on behalf of our God, who promises us steadfast love, just was David was through Nathan.
