The Power of Killing
A reading for Thursday, September 3, 2015: Mark 15:12-21.
The power of killing. It satisfies our anger. Killing placates our selfishness. It justifies our weakness and our inability to believe the truth. Killing another validates hate and concretizes injustices forever. If death is the power of evil, then killing is certainly the main switch.
The authorities believed killing Jesus would stop him and his threat to their power. But you, O God, "have scattered the power of death in the rising of Jesus Christ and you bring us all blessings in him." (from Morning Prayer) You have brought abundance even from killing. You have created life even out of death.
Turn on the news. There is far too much killing still happening in the world today... It has to stop! "Hail to our King, the one with the power of life over death!"
