He Is With Us!

A reading for Tuesday, September 8, 2015: Mark 16:1-8 (9-20).

In his new book, Joining God, Remaking Church, and Changing the World, Alan Roxburgh reflects on how we are truly blessed in that we have a God who not only sends us out in the name of peace, but who also participates with us as we go. We imitate the activity of God, who came as Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Jesus was sent to us to save us. Jesus also participated in the world as a human. This is the meaning of incarnation.

In this last chapter of Mark's gospel, we hear the good news that Jesus is not here, "He has been raised!" The women who came to the tomb are told to go and tell the others. They are sent. But notice the rest: "...tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you." Jesus will be with them to participate in continuing to spread the good news of what God has done.

For us it is the same. We are not just sent in the name of Jesus to our neighbors and our world. Jesus promises to be with us no matter where we go. Jesus joins with us, or we with him in the mission of God. How truly blessed we are in that we have a God that not only sends us out in the name of peace, but who also participates with us as we go!
