Martha AND Mary
A reading for Friday, May 22, 2015: Luke 10:38-42.
Without Martha, Mary would not have the blessing of sitting at the feet of Jesus. Martha was the one who invited Jesus into their home. Without the invitation, we assume Jesus would have passed by.
Without Mary, Martha would not have been taught "the better part." All work and duty, and failing to enjoy the presence of God in our lives is the same as Jesus passing by. Jesus honors Martha's invitation.
Sometimes we feel more like Martha. We are doing all the work while others simply sit back and enjoy. While at other times, we are dependent on others for the blessings we enjoy, like Mary.
Truth is there is value in both. Martha AND Mary both received the blessings of the Lord...
