Unexpected Blessings

A reading for Monday, April 27, 2015: Luke 6:1-11.

It seems too simple... When it comes to unexpected blessings, is the glass half empty or half full? How do you see it?

For the disciples, who are hungry, finding food in the grain fields even on the sabbath is an unexpected blessing. It demonstrates the abundance of God, and the goodness of Jesus Christ. But to the Pharisees, it violates the law and is to be condemned.

For the man with the withered hand, Jesus healing him even on the sabbath is an unexpected blessing.  It demonstrates the love of God and how far Jesus will go to express that love. But to the Pharisees, it violates the law and should be punished.

Truth is, unexpected blessings often have these two reactions. Rather than being about what God is doing, it's often all about our expectations. Do we choose to see the action of God as a blessing, no matter whether or not we knew it was coming, or do we choose to see what God is doing as a interruption of what we wanted to happen.

It seems too simple... When it comes to unexpected blessings, is the glass half empty or half full? How do you see it?
