Rise, let us be on our way...
A reading for Tuesday, April 7, 2015: John 14:15-31.
"Rise, let us be on our way." Jesus had just given his disciples what they would need for faith and life. Here's some of what they heard from Jesus:
1. Truth is not located in our ability or the creation of the world around us. Truth comes to us through God in the gift of the Holy Spirit, whom Jesus sent to us.
2. Because truth is a gift of the Spirit, and the Spirit is a gift of God through Jesus Christ, not all people will recognize truth... "the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him."
3. Truth is preserved by keeping the word of Christ, obeying what we heard from Jesus, which the Spirit comes to teach us and remind us about in our daily lives. Truth is a commitment to Christ combined with the presence of Christ in our lives.
Just like the early disciples who heard this from Jesus, this truth is the source of our belief too. "Rise, let us be on our way." Jesus has given us what we need for faith and life.
