Purpose

A reading for Wednesday, April 22, 2015: Luke 4:38-44.

Several years ago now a whole series of books was written around the idea of purpose. From the website that promotes the series of books: "The most basic question everyone faces in life is Why am I here? What is my purpose? Self-help books suggest that people should look within, at their own desires and dreams, but Rick Warren says the starting place must be with God and his eternal purposes for each life. Real meaning and significance comes from understanding and fulfilling God's purposes for putting us on earth."

The good news is that Jesus has already provided purpose for us as the Body of Christ. It comes from his own words about his own purpose from our lesson today. "I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other cities also; for I was sent for this purpose." This is our purpose too...

There are different gifts and even different ways to express our purpose in proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, but there is simply one purpose for the Christian life. So that all of creation will know the good news of the creator and ruler of the universe. May we continue proclaiming the message today.
