Abide!
A reading for Wednesday, April 8, 2015: John 15:1-11.
"Abide in me as I abide in you." The word abide means to remain, to continue or to stay. It also means to continue in a particular condition, attitude or relationship.
For us, those who have just celebrated the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the continued presence of Jesus in the world, the word abide is the perfect verb. Stay here. Continue to live the particular condition of resurrection. This is the relationship that will glorify God. This is the attitude that will make our joy complete.
We are tempted to function on our own. To go back to doing it our way, with our own power and our own will. Then we are surprised when we burn out, give up and give in...
Abide! Stay here as long as you can...
