Light Of The World

A reading for Wednesday, March 11, 2015: John 8:12-20.

I tell my children not to be afraid of the dark, because after all there is nothing there when it's dark that isn't there when it's light...

But that is the power of the darkness too, isn't it? The darkness can hide the goodness. When it's dark we can't see that what we love and trust and count on is always there. I could be in a room full of blessings, but if it's really dark I might not be able to see it.

Jesus says he is the "Light of the World!" Jesus us the one who enables us to see the blessings of God that are all around us all the time. The very presence of God is all around us all the time, no matter where we are or what we are doing, God is there. The promise that God will never leave us or forsake us is made by Jesus, and we trust in it because we know Jesus has come from God.

Thank you Jesus for illuminating our lives and demonstrating for us how good God really is. We never have to be afraid of the dark, since God is with us when it's dark just as much as when it's light.

I wonder if you realize we aren't just talking about light?
