Holy Week

A reading for Monday, March 30, 2015: John 12:9-19.

"They came not only because of Jesus but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead."

Pope Francis tweeted (yes the Pope tweets) today about Holy Week. "Holy Week is a privileged time when we are called to draw near to Jesus: friendship with him is shown in times of difficulty."

Yesterday was the beginning of Holy Week, the most sacred season of the Christian year. We celebrate with Jesus the arrival of the Kingdom of Heaven, all the while knowing that the powers and principalities of our world will not go quietly. There is joy, and difficulty, and peace all together this week, culminating in Resurrection Sunday!

There are lots of reasons, but this is a week when more Christians will draw near. Some who do not pay attention at any other time will suddenly be interested in the story again. For others, the routine of the Christian life flowers into full blessing. Holy Week is truly a privileged time.

We pray for a happy and holy season of blessings... "Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord— the King of Israel!"
