Another Missional Scripture
A reading for Thursday, March 5, 2015: John 5:19-29.
Another missional reading of scripture from the gospel of John: "Very truly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing on his own, but only what he sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, the Son does likewise. The Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing; and he will show him greater works than these, so that you will be astonished. Indeed, just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whomever he wishes."
As the Body of Christ, the Kingdom of Heaven, the church, we could also change a few words and read it this way: "Very truly, I tell you, (we/the church/the people of God) can do nothing on (our) own, but only what (we) see the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, (we/the church/the people of God) do likewise. The Father loves (we/the church/the people of God) and shows us all that he himself is doing; and he will show (us) greater works than these, so that (we/the church/the people of God) will be astonished. Indeed, just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also (we/the church/the people of God) give life to whomever he wishes."
Thank you God for the reminder that we do nothing apart from you and the grace you offer, including us in your mission. We are grateful!
