Born From Above

A reading for Wednesday, February 25, 2015: John 2:23-3:15.

"Born from above," or born again in some translations, is not our doing. It's not something that we control, or give out or fence off. We don't save anybody!

God alone is the one who offers the gift of water and the spirit, or baptism in other words. When we receive the gift of the Spirit, only then are we are able to see and interpret the "heavenly things" that Jesus refers to. Only then are we able to know God as the giver of grace and the love of all people.

It seems important to remember from where and even from whom our faith comes from. Nicodemus declared it right away when he met with Jesus, "...for no one can do these signs that you do apart from the presence of God."

Being "born from above" is just another way of acknowledging God as the source of all our many blessings. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
