Important Things
A reading for Thursday, January 8, 2015: John 4:46-54.
What's the most important thing you have done so far this year? When you are at work or at school, what is your number one priority? What are you most committed to?
Just like first things, we can also tell what is important to us by what we choose as our priority. Whether we do it first, or second, or even last... what are we willing to sacrifice everything for? What will we work endlessly for? That will prove what our priority is.
Jesus returns to Cana, where the wedding of changing water into wine occurred, and performs a second miracle. This time he demonstrates what is most important, the healing of a child.
A man comes and begs Jesus to help his son that is dying. Jesus saves him. He does this saying, "Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe." You see the healing is to prove that God loves the man and his child. This is Jesus' number one priority. Jesus proclaims the love of God and coming of the kingdom of heaven for the benefit of all. This is what Jesus is committed to. This is quite literally the hill Jesus of Nazareth is willing to die on.
What is most important to you? Have you thought about that lately? A new year is a good time to re-examine your priorities and commit again to your number one priority.
Truth is Jesus already died for us. So the question really is, what are you willing to live for?
