While You are Shopping on Cyber-Monday...

A reading for Monday, December 1, 2014: Luke 20:1-8.

Today is the first day of Advent. It's a new season and a new day for faith in Jesus Christ. The miracle of Advent is even as the calendar year is coming to a close and wrapping up, a new opportunity for faith is already upon us. Hope is once again in season! Advent promises that by prayer and devotion, reflecting upon the blessings of Jesus Christ and the truth of the gospel will offer us hope and peace.

It's also cyber-Monday. A media hyped, marketing device designed to correspond with our holiday shopping. The promise is that good deals and home delivery will make this season brighter for you and your family. So people will take time from work today and shop the internet, looking for hope once again for the holidays brought to you by your favorite retailer.

Which of these will you choose? Where will you seek hope? In which is real peace to be found?

Jesus asked the Chief Priests and Scribes to choose. "Did the baptism of John come from heaven, or was it of human origin?" They refused to answer...

Save us, O Lord, from anything and everything outside the hope of the gospel that promises to bring us peace. Give us eyes to see and the courage to live for you in this season of Advent, and in all the seasons of our lives. We pray in our Lord Jesus Christ's name. Amen
