The Kingdom Banquet

A reading for Monday, November 10, 2014: Luke 14:12-24.

What's the difference between a banquet we would host and the Kingdom banquet God offers?

The mission of God is to transform all things and all people in order to fill the Kingdom. Jesus uses the image of a banquet that includes ALL people, even those that don't deserve an invitation. That's the difference between the heavenly banquet and just any other party a person might give. So that ALL might bring glory to God, not just the ones we would choose to invite out of our own selfish motivations.

However, there will be some that aren't willing. Another difference between the heavenly banquet and one we would choose. When we offer a party some decide they have better things to do. We will invite them again, we think, and perhaps next time it will be a better time. But the heavenly banquet is not the same. Those that are invited will not have another chance. There is judgment at stake for those that do not choose the Kingdom banquet.

“Blessed is anyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God!”
