Prayers of Persistence
A reading for Friday, November 21, 2014: Luke 18:1-8.
Jesus teaches a parable about the need to be persistent. "Will not God grant justice to his chosen ones who cry to him day and night?" The question then is, what is our persistence useful for?
Will we use it for judgment or justice? Will we persistently ask for peace or profit? How much are we committed to happiness, or hope, or harmony? Or have we given up on such things?
There are many who give up, defeated, believing that nothing good can happen for them. It's easy to do in the face of the many struggles we find in our daily living. Faith is a counter-narrative.
Pray without ceasing and do not lose heart says Jesus. God gives good things when we ask for them.
Be persistent!
