Forgiveness Equals Love

A reading for Thursday, October 9, 2014: Luke 7:36-50.

Jesus said, "The one to whom little is forgiven, loves little.”

Given this truth, the greatest sinner among us is capable of the greatest degree of love. Perhaps we cut ourselves off from the abundant love of another person when we simply dismiss them as incapable of anything good.

Rather than disdain and condemnation, perhaps we should invite them to forgiveness. Be forgiven by Jesus Christ and know the capacity you were created for... Love? Even greater love than we can demonstrate to another?

It's not this systematic, but I wonder how our criminal justice system would change if we invited offenders to consider how much they are in need forgiveness rather than punishment.
