First Daily Prayer
A reading for Wednesday, July 23, 2014: Matthew 26:57-68.
"O Lord open my lips, and I shall proclaim your praise." (Psalm 51:15)
This is how each day of daily prayer starts in our PCUSA. Each day, before a word is on our tongue we ask Jesus our Lord to open our mouths with a word of praise for Almighty God. In the midst of fear and disappointment, struggle and strife, and even weary eyes and tired bones, we ask for word of praise. We ask to be granted the blessing of proclaiming our praise for the God we love with all our hearts, mind, soul and strength.
Perhaps today's lesson, the trial of Jesus Christ, is the reason why...
For Christ did not diminish when he was accused. Unlike Peter who stayed in the garden just as we would have, in fear and holding back to see how it would end, Jesus under oath testified to the glory of God the Father. "From now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.” It is God that is first to be glorified for such things said our Lord.
And that's what got him killed...
In the midst of fear and disappointment, struggle and strife, and weary eyes and tired bones, the Lord Jesus Christ offered a word of praise for almighty God without fail. I pray that we be given the power of the Holy Spirit to do the same. For Christ's sake!
