Mercy Lord!

A reading for Friday, June 27, 2014: Matthew 20:29-34.

It's hard to be vulnerable and to express the desires of our heart. What if we get passed by? What if nobody cares? It's easier just to sit quietly and not hope for too much.

Unless your two blind men sitting by the side of the road outside of Jericho. Jericho, the ancient city where it all started. Where the walls came tumbling down long ago as God's people marched around and around expressing their desires of their hearts to live in the land of milk and honey.

God's people called out and the Lord God delivered them.

Those two blind men were not afraid to express the desires of their heart, and they knew in which direction to call out. As Jesus passed by, they begged the Son of David to heal them. They knew, perhaps from the story of Jericho, that anything is possible with God and those chosen by God. So they begged for mercy. They called out and they were healed. Jesus, moved with compassion, touched them and they were healed.

Can you be vulnerable? Can you express the desires of your heart? Do you know what you want?

Truth is Jesus our Lord is ready with mercy, to touch our lives and heal anything and everything that keeps us sitting on the side quietly not following as a disciple. Call out and know that the Lord will not pass by... Call out and receive mercy...

“Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!”
