2 Parts of the Beatitudes
A reading for Monday, May 12, 2014: Matthew 5:1-10.
Just as Moses did with the Ten Commandments, Jesus went to the mountain to bring a word from God. Like the Ten Commandments, this is simply how the people of God are to live.
Even though they appear in a list, there are only two parts of the so named beatitudes found in Matthew 5: our part and God's part.
Simple... Relationship and Covenant.
Our part... We are poor in spirit, mourning and meek. There will be hungering and thirsting for righteousness for us that are merciful and pure in heart. We will be peacemakers. All that we can truly expect is persecution for righteousness sake.
God's part... We are the kingdom of heaven. We will inherit the earth, be filled, and receive mercy. We will see God. Others will call us the children of God, and will see the kingdom of God.
Two parts... our part and God's part.
