Thank God

A reading for Monday, April 28, 2014: John 14:8-17.

Yesterday following worship, two of our church members stop by a car that appeared in trouble to ask if there was anything they could do to help. Thank God.

A group meets to send funds to war torn Sudan in rescue of a family of children there trying to survive in a refugee camp amidst disease and chaos. Thank God.

An email exchange encourages those looking after a chronic and persistent mentally ill woman as together they seek a way to help her find hope. Thank God.

A bouquet of flowers is carefully arranged to honor those graduating from High School, first on the table at church and then taken home so the graduate can remember they are loved. Thank God.

I could go on and that's just one afternoon in one community of God's people. Over and over in big ways and small, the Father is made more real by those in whom the Father dwells. Those keeping the commandments depend on the Holy Spirit and demonstrate God's love to others so that they too might know the Father. Thank God.

Sometimes I am surprised to hear someone say they just can't believe in God because they see no evidence that God exists. They just aren't looking in the right place. They are like Philip in the lesson today who does not recognize the Father in Jesus even though the Father has been there all the time. He doesn't know...

But you know. "You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you." Thank God.
