Peace Through Christ
A reading for Tuesday, April 29, 2014: John 14:18-31.
Jesus says there is a difference between the way the world gives peace and the way of God's peace...
Peace according to many comes through strength, confidence and security. We seek peace with a larger military, more money in our checking account, and a home monitoring system. We are the masters and commanders of our world and peace is the reward for success.
The peace of Christ, however, is different. Peace through Christ comes in weakness, submission and the obeying of God's word. Jesus bids the disciples in the lesson today to keep the commandments so that they might find peace. Peace comes through the love of God given through Christ Jesus.
Only as we trust Jesus as the Lord of life may we find a true and lasting peace. The rest is really just idolatry.
