It's Sabbath Time...
A reading for Saturday, March 15, 2014: Mark 2:23-3:6.
Tomorrow is the sabbath. "The sabbath was made for humankind," Jesus said.
In the beginning God created in six days, and rested on the seventh. On the seventh day, God enjoyed the six days of work and what had been created. The sabbath is the fulfillment of creation, and the celebration of work.
In the scripture today, Jesus and the disciples enjoy the grain that has grown and even heal a man stricken with a withered hand. All this happens on the sabbath. Just as God the Father, Jesus the Son enjoyed the days of work and what had been created, and continues even to create life in healing.
What about you? Will you take some time tomorrow (or even this week if it's Spring Break where you are) to enjoy the work you have accomplished? Will you honor the sabbath and celebrate the gift of creation? It's much more than just rest or a rule to be followed...
