Tis the Season
A reading for Monday, December 23, 2013: Luke 1:67-80
Tis the season. The season for counting our blessings. By now most have finished the shopping, the tree trimming, the pantry is stocked, the kids are out of school and family is traveling to be together or even settling into a few days at home.
Take a moment to look around in the midst of these last days of preparation and let's all count our blessings... even if everything is not as we would like it to be, there are blessings of abundance all around.
A long time ago, Zechariah the father of John the Baptist looked around and counted his blessings. Not everything was as it should have been in that moment, there was still much more to come. But Zechariah lifted his voice: "Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has looked favorably on his people and redeemed them."
Indeed!
